This Company was incorporated in the year 2006 as a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel and is a leading global telecommunications company that currently operates in 20 countries across continents such as Asia and Africa. Both Bharti Airtel and Bharti Infratel are a part of the Bharti group that is one of India’s leading business corporations. It also has business interests in sectors such as telecommunications, real estate, retail, and insurance. In January 2008, Bharti Airtel also transferred its towers to Bharti Infratel via a scheme of arrangement that was effective from 31st January 2008.The Business of the company:
The company is the provider of tower and the associated infrastructure and is also one of the largest tower infrastructure providers in India. It is based on the number of towers that Bharti Infratel owns and operates and the number of towers owned or operated by Indus. As they are represented by the Bharti Infratel’s 42% equity interest in Indus. The sole purpose of both businesses is to acquire, build, own, and operate towers and associated infrastructure. Both Bharti Infratel and Indus currently provide access to their towers and mainly to wireless telecommunications service providers on a shared basis, and under long–term contracts. The three largest customers of Bharti Infratel’s and Indus’ are Bharti Airtel along with Bharti Hexacom, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular. Specifically, these three are leading wireless telecommunications service providers in India by wireless revenue. The Company has a nationwide presence with its operations in all 22 telecommunications Circles in India, along with Bharti Infratel and Indus operations overlapping in the four telecommunications Circles. On 30th September 2012, Bharti Infratel owned and operated 34,220 towers in about 11 telecommunications Circles, whereas Indus operated 110,561 towers in 15 telecommunications Circles. To capitalize on several opportunities for tower sharing in the Indian telecommunications market, Bharti Infratel, works with Vodafone India and Idea Cellular. And it has also entered a joint venture by setting up Indus to operate certain of their towers in 15 telecommunications Circles in India. Also, in March 2014, the Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited or RIL (and the first telecom operator to hold Pan India Unified License) and Bharti Infratel, signed a Master Services Agreement. Under this agreement, the Reliance Jio would utilize the telecom tower infrastructure of Bharti Infratel for launching its services across the whole country.Some of the Subsidiaries of the company:

- 2007 - The Company and the Promoter, Vodafone India Limited, Idea Cellular Limited, and Idea Cellular Infrastructure entered into a joint venture to set up Indus for operating 15 telecommunication circles in the country.
- 2008– The Promoter also transferred its passive infrastructure assets to the Company under a scheme of arrangement that was effective since 31st January 2008, and with effect from the same day.
- KKR Towers Company Mauritius Limited, Compassvale, GS Investment Partners (Mauritius) I Limited, Citigroup Financial Products Inc., AIF Capital Telecom Infrastructure Limited, and AXA Towers India, Annadale, GS Strategic, Millennium Mauritius I Limited, Park Equity Holdings Limited and Nomura also invested in the Company by subscribing to Equity Shares and imperatively convertible debentures.
- 2009– The Company also transferred its passive infrastructure assets in the 12 telecommunication circles to its subsidiary named BIVL. And under a scheme of arrangement that became effective on May 5, 2011, and with effect from the appointed date, i.e., April 1, 2009.
- Citigroup Financial Products Inc. converted about 118,650 imperatively convertible debentures into the 1,182,270 Equity Shares.
- 2010– KKR Towers Company Mauritius Limited, AIF Capital Telecom Infrastructure Limited, Compassvale, Annadale, GS Strategic, Millennium Mauritius 1 Limited, Nomura, AXA Towers India, GS Investment Partners (Mauritius) I Limited and Park Equity Holdings Limited also converted an aggregate of 3,084,900 imperatively convertible debentures into approximately 39,120,640 Equity Shares.
- The Company received the ‘Innovative Infrastructure Company of the Year’ award at the Essar Steel Infrastructure Excellence Awards 2010.
- 2011– ‘Renewable Energy Solutions for the Telecom Cell Towers’ by the Company was also recognized as the ‘Most Innovative Energy Saving Product’ at the Confederation of the Indian Industry. Also, the company received The National Award for Excellence in Energy Management in 2011.
- The Company received the ‘Green Mobile Award’ for the best green product/service or performance at the Global Mobile Awards in 2011.
- The BIVL also filed a scheme of arrangement before the High Court of Delhi in which, all the business and undertakings of BIVL, Vodafone Infrastructure Limited, and Idea Cellular Towers Infrastructure Limited are transferred to and being vested in Indus.
- 2012 –The Company was also awarded the 2012 - CNBC Essar Steel, Infrastructure Excellence Award for being the “Telecom Infrastructure Company of the Year.”
- The Company also received the 2012 CIO–APC Green IT Award for successfully consolidating and virtualizing its data center and making a significant reduction in the carbon emissions.
- The Company received the iCMG IT Architecture Award for its specific landmark end–to–end enterprise tool.
- The Company received the ‘Top Infrastructure Company’ award in the category of telecom infrastructure at the ‘D&B– Axis Bank Infra Awards 2012’. Also, the Company won the PC Quest 2012 award for the best IT implementation.
- The Company also won the CIO 100 efficient enterprise special award.
